Hello, I would like to give a wine tasting party featuring only USA made wines.I would like to get a bottle of wine that has been made in each state. Can anyone tell me how to or give on where I can get this info from?
I am not sure if each state makes there own wine. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the board.
USA Today (I think from July 12, 2002) ran an article on wines from the 50 states. A licensed North Dakota winery completed the 50 states. (However, some mentioned in the article make fermented fruit juices from other than grapes--strawberries, elderberry, etc. which some say cannot be called wine since wine starts with grapes).
See if the article is available online--if not, you could probably photocopy info at a public library or perhaps get a reprint from the USA Today library or "morgue" for a small fee. I believe it gives contacts for each winery mentioned. The other problem might be
locating or having wines shipped to you--state laws really hamper direct shipment unless your state has reciprocal agreements with other wine-producing states (and then probably not all of them).

There are now wineries in all 50 states. However, the chances of being able to assemble a package of all of them could be a daunting task. Wineries from places like Alaska, Vermont, Maine, Kentucky and all those other states where the wine industry is very small and there isn't much volume just don't have very wide distribution. Most of their wines are sold right from the winery and some have small sales over the internet. Wines from major winemaking states will be easy to find in your area, fortunately. You could do an internet search using the state name and wine as keywords to possibly find hard to get wines. You could also go to a few of the better wine shops in Tucson and ask if anyone there could help you with your search.

Hi JessicaTrey and welcome to the board. Unfortunately, I see you, as am I, are a resident of one of the felony shipping states. You're partaking on a voyage as perilous as Columbus only you have 7,250,156 more obstacles in your path, known affectionately as the Bureau of ATF. If you expect to have this tasting anytime in the 21st century you'll need the support of our heavy duty administrators. Boggles what's left of my mind. I'd love to offer my help but I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Good Luck. WW

Just to add to the above, you would have take a very long trip. Many states, incredably refuse to let in-state wineries ship their products OUT of the state except to wholesalers who normally only handle large volume shipments that will move. Some I can think of off the top of my head include New York, Texas, and Pennsylvania. PA has dozens of wineries, but only one that ships out of state; Chaddsford. They ship to Maryland, DC, and, I think, VA.

IK, it is Chadd's Ford, PA (now maybe they truncated the name for the winery) but the place name is as above. (And yes, by gosh, they did truncate the place name for the winery.)

CHADDSFORD WINERY
632 Baltimore Pike
Chadds Ford, PA 19317
610-388-6221
cfwine@chaddsford.com

Naturally, named after a river crossing.

I've nary ever seen a bottle of PA wine in my part of Virginia. Maybe they have some up around DC? (Uh, duh, that would be Maryland.)

The most famous things about Chadds Ford are some spots for fine dinning, mushrooms, and a family of artists names of Andrew (did some nudy woman and a bunch of dumb looking farm houses and stuff), Andy and Jamie (did some stuff with JFK) and then there is that old dead guy, Howard Pyle from Wilmington. Then there was that book writing guy, James Michner, who wrote something about the area (The Author), but I'm getting off track.

According to the CHADDSFORD Winery web site they distribute to NY, PA, NJ, MA and DE.
