Hi Mary, and welcome to the Wine Board. Try whatever they suggest. There are a few reasons for this. First there will be wines there that are not the Spanish or Portugese wines we are used to here. Second, if you go looking for specific wines, you may offend someones sensibilites about what is and is not good. Most importantly you will be in an area where wine is matched with food and not vice versa. Most ofter you will offered a choice of white or red. Look at the food, and make up your mind. Then enjoy.
Don't take a lot of time taking down the names of wines you like with the idea of getting more when you return home. Changes are they will not be avalable. There are a lot of wonderful Spanish and Portugese wines available here, but sometimes the names are even different here than in their homelands.

Weren't the 94/95 Spanish Riojas excellent vintages?? I have a few 94 Riojas in my collection and they are great.
