Im just learning about wines. I opened a bottle last night and was wondering how long it would last in the refrigerator? How quickly do I need to finish it? Thx

Welcome TI.

Usualy about one to two days. But your chances of it lasting longer is to buy some wine in a half bottle. When you are finished with the wine, keep the bottle and the next time you open a full bottle you don't plan on finishing, pour it into the half bottle recork and refrigerate.

With the right wine I have kept it op to 4 days.

Hi TI, and welcome to the Wine Board. Hopfully you at least put the cork back first. If not, it may be gone already. If you did, a day or two.

You need to get a half (375 ml) of wine and keep the empty bottle. Then get ahold of a decent stopper. Next time you get a full bottle, pour half of it in the half bottle to the top, stick in the stopper and refrigerate. This will now hold four or five days. If the wine is red, let it warm up a little before serving the second time around.

Wines, even of the same type, vary greatly in holding ability. Andrea Immer's "2004 Wine Buying Guide for Everyone" gives you holding ability of over 600 widely distributed and popular wines.
