I have been told that the correct pronunciation of the wine called Meritage is with a short A and then told with a long A. Can someone spell it phonetically for me.

Thank you

Have also heard Andrea Immer pronounce it as rhyming with "heritage". Whatever works.

Will add my welcome to this humble board.

Welcome. It was intended to rhyme with heritage but most consumers give it a more Frenchified pronunciation with the accent on the final syllable instead of on the first syllable.

If you go to www.meritagewine.org you'll find that it's pronounced to rhyme with heritage. It's a name the Meritage Association came up with through a naming contest, and it's supposed to denote a combination of merit and heritage. Only wineries that pay dues to join and a fee for the wines they produce using the Meritage name can legally use that trademarked name. The wines are made using only the red or white grapes of Bordeaux.

Notice that many of the Finger Lakes wineries are now members. There was a problem for a while because even though they used Bordeaux varieties, many of them had Cabernet Franc upfront (highest percentage). The purests claimed that there had to be Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot upfront, but apparently they have become overcome.

tw, That's because you're trying to read whatever language WW is trying to make his poor keyboard put forth. However, if that's not what's confusing you, what is?
