I opened my second bottle of wine ever tonight, and rather enjoyed it. I tried the Beaujolais-Villages 2000 by Georges Dubeouf. I'd like to try a wine with a more full flavor. Any ideas? I'd also like to try some more whites after trying a pinot gris. Thanks for the help!

Greg, you haven't told us what food you had with either the pinot gris or Beaujolais. What food do you want to try with your next wine? Wine goes with food. If you just want to sit around and drink wine without food, just say so, and we can recommend some cocktail wines.

well so far the two wines we tried we had after dinner.
We eat a fair amount of pasta dishes with chicken and herbs,
We also like to eat pork grilled, or with a picatta sauce.
I've also started cooking recently asian cuisine with pork and chicken again, usually dark sauces. We tend to stay away from very sweet sauces. I hope that helps a little. thanks so much!

OK, with the pasta you might try the Italian version of your pinot gris, Pinot Grigio, or the increasingly popular Vermentino; or you could go with a light red such as Bardolino, or lighter (i.e. less expensive) versions of Barbera d'Asti or Dolcetto. With the pork you could try riesling, either dry with the simply grilled or off dry with the sauced versions. For reds you could try light pinot noirs or some of the Cru Beaujolais we have discussed around here a lot recently. With the lighter Asian dishes try gewurztraminer preferably from Alsace; and with the heavier ones reds such as light red zinfandels or Australian Shiraz'. Hope this gives you some ideas.

hey greg,
brett fangi, here. (not an expert, by far) But, chilean cabernet sauvignons are packed with flavor, ready to drink now and offer bang for the buck. Oh and they're accessible, fruity and tasty, but they have more body than a beaujolais.

Ones i've had recently. (all 10 bucks and under)
1. Echeverria 8.99 with tax. YUM!
2. Terra Rosa 9.99
3. Xplorateur 10.00
4. Look for anything made by Concha y Toro

[if my advice is not good, experts please speak up]

ps. Another white that is less sweet, than a Reisling, but elegant and fruity in its own right is a Spanish wine called Albarino. The first one i ever had made smile ear to ear. (they're usually inexpensive)
