Hi...I'm wine knowledge inept and was wondering if you could tell me a bit about Lugurian wines..Maybe a quick description, if you are familiar, with Pigato, Vermentino, Ciliegiolo and Solitario Terra Rosse. Are these names of grapes/vinyards?...General characteristics of these? Ummm, so sorry if I'm being vague.

First of all, it's Liguria not Luguria. Pigato, Vermentino, Ciliegiolo and Dolceacqua are varietals, Terre Rosse is a winery and Solitario is a Vina da Tavola made by them.

In general, the whites are crisp, minerally and great with seafood but expensive for what they are. The reds are really light and quaffable and REALLY expensive for what they are. The lack of value is because of the high labor that goes into growing vines on terraced slopes of seaside cliffs.
