Sorry if this is dumb, but what do "blanc de blanc" and "blanc de noirs" signify? I understand the French, but I just don't understand if they're talking about grape colors or what. Thanks.

Hi Joey26. The descriptions refer to the principal types of grapes used in the bubblies. Blanc de Blancs are made primarilly from Chardonnay grapes (White) and Blanc de Noirs from Pinot Noir (Red) grapes. WW

OK, that's pretty much what I thought. The fact that two grape colors are mentioned was throwing me off -- I assume it means "white wine made from white/red grapes."

The reason for the blanc de blancs and blanc de noirs designations goes just a bit deeper. The description of Champagne wine includes a blend of white and red grapes, except for the separately designated wines produced either from all white or from all red grapes.
