- reba - 10-18-2000 I am looking for a wine tasting class in the San Jose, California area. I am a beginning taster. Any ideas? - thewoodman - 10-18-2000 A little far from San Jose, but worth the drive. UC Davis Extension has a 1-1/2 day class. Intro to Sensory Evaluation of Wine. It's usually a Saturday and half of Sunday. I highly recommend it. Taught by John Buchenstein, winemaker at Fife and a wine judge. Ann Noble and other UC Davis profs teach parts of the class. - Garbo - 10-24-2000 Also, there are a lot of wineries within driving distance -- good places to go practice after you have finished your class -- or before! A couple to the south near Santa Cruz (Bonny Doon is one of my favorites, and they have a lot of different varieties and styles) and all those wonderful places in Napa and Sonoma to the north. Lucky you! Also, Stanford is close; maybe they offer extension classes... Also local wine shops may offer tastings or classes. And Sur La Table shops sometimes offer these types of classes... Call around... [This message has been edited by Garbo (edited 10-24-2000).] - PortGal - 10-27-2000 The University of California at Santa Cruz extension offers wine appreciation classes in Sunnyvale. Their webpage is at http://www.ucsc-extension.edu The wine classes are listed under humanities. |
