I live less than an hour away from some of the most talked-about Pinot Noir producers, and I have yet to find one I enjoy drinking! I don't know if I'm just not spending enough to get a "high quality" wine, or if I'm expecting something that won't ever be there... I keep anticipating something that's easier to drink than they have been.

So, I need help! Please fill me in on the quirks of this wine...

Thank you!
Jessie

Sorry... Should have mentioned that red faves so far are Cab/Merlot blends and some Merlots. Haven't tried Zins, and the Cabs have been a little too tannic for my tastes (though I might be having the same problem as I have with the Pinots - not forking over enough cash!).

Thanks,
Jessie

Jesse, You need to tune into www.winepressnw.com. This is the voice of the wines of the NW and has outstanding articles and tasting notes on the marvelous wines in your area. Think you mite be a victim of poor selection. winoweenie

you may want to try St. Innocent Its near portland. The folks here are always raving about it, haven't tried it myself. Will probably go do a winery tasting this summer.

Funny you should mention St Innocent - someone at work just suggested I try their Pinot. Two recommendations seems a pretty good reason to at least give it a try! I'll be on the lookout for it, thanks.

And thanks, WW, for the website listing. I'll have to check it out and see what they say. I do hope it's just that I've not tried the good stuff yet - I'd be pretty bummed if I never found one I liked, since I live so close...

Thanks again!
Jessie

This is probably scandalous to tell you...but you might try a good Burgundy...for example try the Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Proces from Robert Arnoux (98 for eg.). Although it'll cost you about 60 bucks ...but you'll get a definitive answer if you like Pinot Noirs...if you like it then try a bunch of both Oregon (since that's where you are) and French (for variety) until you find the elements of what you like in a Pinot.

If you don't want to spend that much, I'm sure your local wine store carries some cheaper burgundies...

Try Torii Mor Pinots, up to the 98' vintage and then the 99' Autumn wind for a great buy.
