Hosting our 20th reunion, my husbands 40th birthday and a work party. would like to know of a very inexpensive wine that would be good quality. Someone told me to check Trader Joes for 2-buck-chuck but we live in the south and do not have a trader joes.
Any suggestions?

Emab,

I am not experienced enough to give a lot of suggetsions. What I can tell you is that more information is needed to give good advice. Is there food to be served, and if so what will the menu look like? There are many types of wine and knowing that will make it easier to pair the wine to the food.

What type of food will be served and guests do they like whites or reds?

You see, there will be white and red. These are events with appetizers and beer as well.

An Australian Shiraz and one of their Unwooded Chardonnays should make everybody happy. Good examples of both are available for under $10.

Never disappointed with a Pops pick. www.popswine.com

A Silly Price!!
Santa Margherita is said to be the largest selling restaurant wine in the USA. If you're a wine-lover you've heard the name, and you've probably thinking Pinot Grigio. You may not have known they even made a Merlot.....obviously nobody else did either. The result.... we were able to purchase a large amount at a silly price!!

"Versato means "highly skilled and competent" in Italian. This Merlot is created exclusively from grapes grown in the Eastern part of the Veneto region, where the moderate climate and clay soil allow slow ripening for maximum flavor development. Versato Merlot is accessible and consistent - made to be enjoyed today as the perfect companion to cheeses, roasted meats, tuna, salmon, duck, lamb and wild game.

Intense, brilliant ruby-red. Delicate nose. Elegant with hints of tart red cherry and black fruit tinged with vanilla. Fresh, dry, and balanced. A medium-bodied wine with persistent red and black berry character."

Down from $15 plus to $3 plus? Either the $15 is a lie, or the discount points to a truly risky wine buy...
