Hi,

While clearing out my grandmothers house, we came across a bottle (78cl) of Krug Champagne Vintage 1971. I was just wondering if this was a good year and possibly valuable? If not, a party is on the way! Any help anyone could give would be grateful.

Hi Jemima and welcome to the board. 81 wasn't a bad but not an exceptional year. The bottle would probably retail in the 100-150 range if it had proper storage. It's extremely difficult to sell single bottles so I suggest get your significant toher and PARTY!! WW

I went to a luncheon in San Francisco one time put on by Moet that featured old vintages of their Champagne. One of the questions I put to their expert was about the value of old Champagnes and he said there's not much of a market for them, so he couldn't assign a value.

Apparently the collectors go after other types of wine when they're buying old vintages.

But have fun drinking it. Some of the older stuff we had was delicious.
