Anyone tried the 1996 Penfolds Bin 707 from Australia?

And, is $80 a fair price for this wine?

Hi Dan,

The fact that they actually made 707 is your first tip off that it was a above average year. If the season isn't perfect they don't make 707 and they bottle it as 407.

This wine is by no means cheap so the price doesn't scare me. I'd say go for it.

What does the bin number tell a buyer? As a total novice, I do not know the first thing about bin numbers.

In Australia, it was a way to identify a lot, or plot, of grapes.

Rather than "name it" they just kept the bin numbers.

Example: Penfolds 407 is their "standard" cabernet. Consider the 707 their "reserve".
