For Christmas I wanted to give my parents a special treat. Upon recommendation from a local wine store I purchased a flight of Petite Sirah, York Creek Vineyards. I have the 1994, 1995 and 1996 vintages. Not having tasted these myself, I am wondering if someone out there has and could provide comment/impressions. Also any suggested food pairing?

Hi Digwee, and welcome to the Wine Board. I may get overuled, but IMHO the '94 will be ready to drink next year sometime which is fine, but the '95 in '05 and the '96 in '06. If this is OK with you, fine. If not, would talk to the folks at that wine shop again.

Hi there digwee and welcome to the board. This is a very nice Petite and does require ageing to achieve maximum drinkability. IKs' answer is rite on. The 95 and 96 are not undrinkable but they need the time to cool out. Nice verticle. WW

Are you saying 05? Or should it have been consummed the same year? I find that hard to believe which is why I'm posting the question

With regard to holding on to the bottles for a few years, it would be fun to stipulate to your parents that they can only consume them on Christmas. This way that would have to wait till at least 04 & 05 before consumming the 95 & 96. I would think they would be ready to have fun with by then. What a lovely tradition to start. Do you spend the holiday with your parents? If so, you can stipulate it that snow must be on the ground and the whole family together in order for the bottle to be opened. Putting a "whole family together" is the greatest gift anyone can give their parents.
