- Gus - 01-31-2002 I need to find a robust, red wine. I don't have a lot of expertise. Could I get some recommendations? - hotwine - 01-31-2002 Welcome to the board, Gus. There are a whole bunch of "robust red wines" out there in the world, so we could use a little more information to work with, such as price range you're willing to pay (under $10? under $20? under $100?) and whether you're looking to pair the wine with a particular food, or simply "quaf" it (drink it casually, without a dinner accompaniment). If you'll share that with us, we'll come up with some recommendations. - Gus - 01-31-2002 Thank you for your response. I will say that under $100 would be ok. It is going to be for dinner but I don't know what they are serving. Sorry if this doesn't help to much. - Innkeeper - 01-31-2002 1998 Balnaves, Coonawarra, The Blend ($15) (just about equal parts merlot, cabernets sauvignon and franc). This wine is ready to drink, and will fill your bill for considerably less than $100. The importer is in Bathesda, MD, so you should not have a problem finding it in your area. - hotwine - 01-31-2002 Trust Innkeeper ("IK"), Gus. I don't know that particular wine, but trust his judgement. - winoweenie - 02-03-2002 Hi Gus and welcome. A bottle you mite find down your alley is a wine simply called Reds. It's a blend of everything in the vineyard and is my main summer drinker with grilled burgers. From your breif description I think almost any Zinfandel from the better wineries fits the bill as do lots of the Cotes du Rhone. WW |
