Hi Mayz and welcome to the Wine Board. We have two other members from Hollis residing in the same home. Riesling is the most versitle white wine in the world in that it can be made in a variety of styles and levels of sweetnes from dry to very sweet. It is also high in acid, which is good in a white wine. So, for comparable versatility it has no equal.

The easiest comparison is in acidity. There are many whites, but Sauvignon Blanc is very close. Chenin Blanc has a lot of variations in sweetness.

For flavor, it is much tougher. Vermentino from Sardina comes closest to my mind.

Hello, I was wondering if someone could give me the name or names of some good white wine that is mello and slightly sweet. My husband and I have been trying various ones but they all seem to be to dry and not at all sweet. I did find one that was perfect in the mello part but it too was very dry.

Welcome to the board.
You might try a 2003 German Riesling Spatlese or Auslese--perhaps a Wehlener Sonnenuhr from the Mosel River. The 2003 vintage saw extreme heat across Europe so many of the grapes were riper/sweeter than usual when picked.

Thank you very much. I'll give them a try and see how I find them.
