Q. What does the word 'blanc' mean in for example 'cabernet blanc'? From what i have been able to find, the word means 'white' which doesnt make sense for a red wine.

That's probably Cabernet Franc, a red wine grape.

Blanc does indeed mean white. You can get white wines from red grapes by removing the wines from the skins before saignée occurs. All red grapes have white juice except for two or three -- one being Alicante Bouchet.
