Hello, I have a problem, let me start by saying a couple months ago me and my friend were bored so we kinda decided to drink some of my parents wine, well one bottle in paticular. The bottle of wine we drank was a 1989 Bodegas Montecillo S.A. Rioja, and it was in a box with another bottle. My problem is after we drank it I realized that sooner or later my parents are going to open that box and see that one has been drank, filled back up with red water and taped
I was wondering if I can buy a single bottle of this paticular wine so I can replace it with out them knowing. How much would it be and where can I get it? The local LCBO? Please help before I get grounded for the rest of my life.

Boy, does this bring back memories! I couldn't tell you how much of my dad's wine I drank back in the early 1980's, and good stuff too! Several Bordeaux, names something like Margaux or Rothschild? Oh well.

My question to you is, are you legally old enough to buy wine? If not, my advice to you is to take the tape off the bottle, dump out the colored water and fess up. I think your dad will probably have a lot more respect for you, though you probably will be grounded for at least part of your life. It wouldn't be a bad idea to at least offer to financially make ammends for the bottle. Then he can decide if he wants to replace it.

You may be able to find a replacement for him at www.wine.com, as well as an idea of what it was worth. I think I have a bottle of the 1991 in my cellar, but sorry, I don't want to part with it. How about giving me some tasting notes on the 1989, so I'll know what to expect?

Well I usually don't drink wine, but all I know is damn it got me and my buddy fricken wasted! LOL
It tasted good but my friend puked...it was really gross puke too. Ah well I think its a good wine is it not? How much do you think it would be? Maybe I'll just get one of my legal age friends to go to some wineries and ask around.

If you can find it, the Bodegas Monticello will cost you at least $25.

Later in life when you are a bit more mature you will come to realize that you wasted a good bottle of wine for no good reason.

Since you are a minor, my best advice to you would be the same as Winecollector's.

Fess up to dad, use your funds to pay HIM for the bottle and take your punishment as a lesson learned.

This sounds either like a put-on or a government agent seeking advice on how to get wine illegally....

I don't know for sure Foodie, but it sounds legitimate to me that this future wine lover just "kinda" screwed up. He did not originally state he was under age. I merely assumed it based on the contents of his question. This is something I could see two "kinda bored" teenagers doing with their "parents wine." Who else would come up with the idea of filling a bottle back up with colored water and taping over the cork, other than a teenager? In addition, his fear of "being grounded for the rest of his life" is not something an adult would likely consider- let's see.....no work, no responsibility, no stress from any negative social interaction, lay around the house all day, where do I sign up?

Something else that should be considered though, is that he acknowledged in his second response that he would have to get one of his "legal age friends to ask around" for him. Now correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think it is in the best interest of this web site, nor in any of our best interest, to now knowingly permit a person under the legal drinking age to continue to have access to this site as a member, do you?

Sorry Chase, nothing personal. I'll gladly welcome you back if I'm still around here when your legal. Hey, I'll even open a bottle with you when you come of legal age. But please don't be offended when I card you.

you'll never here from me again, thanks anyway.

We may not hear from you again, but I intend to let popswine.com know about your underage status.

I will not allow a good merchant of good to fine wine be tricked into selling to a minor.
