Hi,
I'm new to wine collecting. I'm not even sure how to pronounce half of these names, but I'm very anxious to learn! Any suggestions on web sites or reading materials that can help inform me?
Thanks!!

Hi Newtofield, and welcome to the Wine Board. Two good books are "Wine For Dummies" and "Great Wine Made Simple" by Andrea Immer. The latter came out last year, is wonderful, and can now be had at discount. As for sites, in addition to this one, you may want to check out stratsplace.com that includes lots of research sources included a audio pronounciation guide. A newer site called wineanswers.com has good info on it as well as links to many other wine sites.

As far as this site is concerned the search function is excellent. Like most search functions it sometimes takes a little practice. The names of wines or grapes will almost always get results, including linking them with regions or countries. Sometimes an entry like Wines of France will give you little or nothing, where French Wine may give you a load. Also, on each thread there is a "Go" button. Using this you can research all the information on that thread all the way back to the beginning of the board. Some threads have a ton of postings and some have very few. So, it's best to "Go" back a few months at a time, until you have enough or sufficient information.

Hi "new to the field," and welcome. I also recommend Wine for Dummies for starters. As far as pronouncing the names, I've been collecting for years, and the French still won't allow me in their country because of how badly I still screw up their language! And, if winoweenie's pronounciations are as bad as his spelling.... no wonder he can't travel east of the Mississsippi!
