Hi all. So I'm a wine newbie (I finally got sucked in because my roommates love wine). Anyway, I recently went out to dinner with a friend and tried a flight of Merlots. I've been trying to find a red wine that I'd like, but have found Cabs way too "hard core" for my taste. I fell in love with the Dreyer 2003 Merlot, North Coast because there wasn't a heavy aftertaste and didn't make me pucker my lips like the other 2 wines in the flight.

So I guess my question is, does any one have any suggestions for Merlots similar to the Dreyer 2003 (if you've tried it) or if you know of any Merlots taht don't give you that heavy bang at the end, but rather have a smoother ending to it that doesn't leave you with a sour face, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm also interesting in trying red zin since it's more fruity, but I know that fruitier doesn't necessarily mean sweeter. I'm not really a fan of white wine although I haven't tried white zin yet. Thanks

Welcome to the board. Right off the bat, I'd suggest a Merlot from Australia from Marquis Philips. It would seem to have the flavor profile you're seeking. Also, you may want to take a look at the Merlot and the Zin threads for suggestions you also may enjoy.
