Hi! - What wine do I serve with a Pesto sauce, and what do I serve with a tomato sauce.

The easiest thing: If you serve Italian, drink Italian. Certainly, any Chianti would do great with pesto and tomato sauces. These types of Italian reds have just the right amount of roundness and acidity to balance out the taste of tomatoes and cut through the strong taste of basil and garlic. Don't worry about price -- the more you pay the better the wine, but even less expensive Chiantis ($10-$16) will do the job of complimenting the food... guarans. If you're worried about making your own choice, visit a friendly wine merchant and ask for the best Chianti you can find for the price you're willing to pay. Buon appetito!

Randy C. - thanks for the tip. I chose a Ruffino Riserva Ducale - 1990 (Chianti Classico). It was yummy! It was especially good with the Pesto sauce.:}. Thanks again, Not so ignorant anymore
