Hello all... I am looking for someone or a couple of people to help me learn all about wine. I work at Tarragon at Elk Mountain in Montrose, CO. We have a huge selection of wine and I need to know all about everything. I really am a total beginner so if someone is interested, please reply. Thank you.

Hello smichelle! And welcome to the board! One suggestion might be to invest in a good book. A populair favorite is Andrea Immer's "Great Wine Made Simple". She breaks wine down to basics and is very easy to follow. Enjoy!

Hello Michelle,
I have worked in a five-star restaurant in Chicago. Your manager should know that you'll never reach the five-star level without educating your staff ... nonetheless good for you for showing so much interest and drive outside of work.
I'm not exactly sure what you're asking for -- if you want to hire somebody or if you're just looking to answers to specific questions ? -- but in any case the first thing you should do is buy a good basic wine book. Here are some examples:
-Great Wine Made Simple, by Andrea Immer
-Wine Atlas, by Oz Clarke (Hugh Johnson also put together a good one)
-Wine for Dummies (no offense. It's a good book)
-Any of the big wine encyclopedias (Oxford, Tom Stevenson, etc.)

Anytime you have specific questions, you can post them here. There are many experts who are very gracious about sharing their knowledge. Just make sure you only post once per question.

Good luck.

-Joe

Hi again Michelle. Didn't know you'd posted twice on the same subject. On this board one post will do it. If anyone knows the answer you'll get it. Disregard my previous post as it was answered on this one. WW
