During the Super Bowl a Friend and I enjoyed some Pinot Noir along with cheese and cold cut platter. I ate mostly the cheese.

The food in combination with the wine was really good.

I've heard people talking about this and now I'm really starting to see how the wine can enhance the food and vice versa.

Isn't it wonderful when the light bulb goes on? Wine really is a food, and it really is best when consumed with other food. Part of the fun on this journey is discovering what foods go well with the wine. Admittedly there are wines out there now that have been made to shine their best when in a tasting environment, like a judging. However, the best are still those that match well with food. One thing that's so obvious that it goes right over many people's heads is that Old World wines, in particular, go so well with the foods from the same regions as the wines.

We very rarely if ever drink wine without food. Even when quaffing we eat snacks with it.

Depending on what food you are eating at the time, the wine will bring on a different flavor. What I tried was to take a platter of different types of food ie crackers, fruit and sweet stuff and try different types of wine with each food type. It was fun and I could learn what the marketing guys but on the back of the bottle like nutty, blackberry and so on
