What is the recommended practice to store an unopened bottle of Port? Then once it is opened and I don't want to drink the whole bottle, how should it be stored?

Vintage Port will drink well for a week or so after opening, Tawny Port for a month. I just store then in a cool spot.

I second that information; common error to think that Port lasts a long time after it has been opened.

Okay, at the risk of total embarassment, I'll weigh in here.

I too thought that Port would last longer than wine, but not forever. However, I have a couple of bottles of relatively inexpensive port that have been open for MONTHS that have not changed one iota. I've never claimed to have Robert Parker's palate, but I can certainly tell when a wine has been open for awhile...and both these ports are fine.

RAD, maybe they are "fine" but I doubt they have not changed one iota--only way to test that is to open a fresh bottle of the same and then compare. Phone me when you do; I will be glad to judge with you....
