I received a mailing today that Bill Bishop of Carneros Creek Winery will be presiding over a wine dinner in my area soon. The price is surprisingly inexpensive. As I am not familiar with this winery, my question is, are their wines any good, and therefore might it be worthwhile?

CDoubleDuece, Yes. this winery has resurrected itself after a disasterous period in the late 70`s to mid-80`s when they had bacteria in their bottling line and didn`t know why their wines were dreck.Their winery on Dealy Lane is a beauty and produces some wunnerful juice. Not sure if Mahoney still owns it or not. WW

Enjoyed a bottle of their 1999 Fleur de Carneros, Pinot Noir at Joe's Boathouse in South Portland last Friday night. Matched it with Lobster Fettucini for moi, and Scallop Scampi with olives, mushrooms, et al on a lighter pasta for Mother. It did carry the Carneros appellation, and it was a great restaurant value at $25. It lists at $17.50 ($14 at Pops) retail.

This is an excellent wine, taking its place in between Villa Mt Eden and Logan, Sleepy Hallow Vineyard it both price point and quality. Gorgeous ruby color, with ripe cherries on the nose and up front. More fruit and nice complexity and smooth tannin across the place. Hardly a trace of oak. Very nice finish though hard to judge when is was washing down the lobster clawmeat in sherry creams sauce and pasta. Very nice wine and highly recommended as a pinot value.

I tried the Carneros Creek Pinot Noir at the Pinehurst (NC) Wine Festival and found it pleasant (but prefered the ZD Pinot Noir). I also have had the Fleur de Carneros Pinot Noir and contributed it as a communion wine to my church once. If the dinner is inexpensive, I say go for it! I'm going to an Australian Wine Dinner in Raleigh next Sunday and enjoy wine dinners as a way to expand my tasting experience (both foods and wines).
