Has anyone tried to sell their collection on this thread? I have someone trying to sell me (personally, not the company) his collection and its got some really killer Beaucastel vintages, 86/89 Bordeaux and some Tuscans. I'm a bit apprehensive about buying after market since provenances can be faked too. I don't want to buy Hurricane Katrina wine! I thought about recommending him to post it on this thread, but I don't want anyone to get bamboozled. Thoughts? Experiences?

Personally, I wouldn't buy such a collection unless I knew the seller and was familiar with his storage. That's just me.... suspicious as hell.

I'm with Hotwine.

In fact, I don't understand people who would willingly fork over money to people they haven't met for products that they have no way of evaluating. Might as well mail your bank account info to Nigeria!

Thanks guys. If it smells too good to be true, it likely is. Heard from a friend that a trusted Chicago auctioneer actually buys wines from insurance claims that have been filed. They just "forget" to give you ALL the details. That alone caused me to walk away. As a novice collector, I have to remind myself sometimes that I need to start fresh and I need to start somewhere. Its an intoxicating dance in itself...
