My parents 30th wedding anniversary is just around the corner. They have both just started to collect wines, and are really into
big reds. I'd like to get them a wine from 1970, but have no idea if it was a particularly good year for what or whom. does anyone have any suggestions?

A Ridge Zinfandel comes to mind. But, can't find information on the vintage nor any sources for individual bottlings at my usual haunts.

Saaco, welcome aboard! You are in luck as both Bordeaux and rhw US had exceptional vintages in 70. The bad news is, rhe best wines of the vintage are not only scarce, but BERY,BERY expensive. There are no stores in Phoenix that would have a selection (or storage provence) of 70s`. The 2 that would have a strong selectionare in So. Calif.Bel-Air-20-20 Wine Merchants in west LA is one They have a large selection of 70 Bordeaux. Phone is 310-447-2020. Hi-Time Cellars in Costa Mesa also is a very reliable merchant with and extremely large selection.Their Phone is 800-331-3005. If Calif is your choice 2 wines that have made this distance are Mayacamus and Heiotz Cellars, " Marthas` Vineyard. All other 70s` I`ve had in recent years are gone with the exception of some bottles of BV Private Reserve. I strongly agree with Wino -- the Mayacamas will still be holding, assuming proper storage. 1970 was an excellent year in Bordeaux, but as stated, they will be expensive.

In a bit of a hurry there wino?
I think the word you want there is "provenance",rather than the region in the south of France.

Jason, I`m familiar with the word but my typing skills (as can be noted on many other posts ) leave a great deal Etc. That`s why, with my 2 finger system, you aren`t subjected to my version of Randy-Verballism. Winoweenie
