I'm looking for a 50 year old something to give a wine loving friend a 50th birthday present.

Debra, go to www.wine-searcher.com and put in the year your friend was born, '50 or '51.
There are many different wines and ports that might fit the bill depending on your budget.

Debra, welcome to the board. Hopefully your friend was born in 50 as it was a fairly good vintage for vintage ports but 51 wasn`t declared. The only other fortified wine you mite look for is Maderia. They are long-lived. Any wine , even the 1st growths from bordeaux would be chancy from rhe 50 vintage and VERY expensive from the 51 (51 Mouton Rothschild @ 2200.00). Sometimes those birthdays don`t jibe with good vintage years. Good Luck winoweenie
