Hi Sun, and welcome to the Wine Board. Like most things the best way to learn about wine is with a good book. The library, your local big box book store, Amazon.com, etc, are good places to start. Wine for Dummies is a title to start with. You are fortunately living adjacent to a wonderful wine region. Take a trip to a local winery, and taste their offerings to see which ones you like. Retailers in your area will have tastings from time to time too. Sometimes this is a regular monthly affair. A dessert wine is a sweet wine that goes with sweet foods. It is usually more expensive than table wine which is usually dry or just slightly off dry.

Sun, Welcome to the board. IK gave you good advice. To learn about wine is to drink, catalog, and remember the ones you like. There is nothing that replaces experience. Reading gives you the terminology, Drinking gives you the file cabinet. Have fun and don`t be intimidated by ANYTHING or ANYONE. ~taint no person on this here planet that knows ALL about wine. Yhe so-called experts are normally only conversant in a small band of the wine spectrum. So, get busy and start opening them suckers. Winoweenie
