How do you tell when you've found a good wine? Is there a certain price range?

LeeP,

Welcome to the WineBoard. "Good" wines come in all price ranges. You can tell when you've found a "good" wine only by your own taste. Does it taste good to you?

There are tens of thousands of choices each year. Find what pleases you. Then keep buying and tasting new wines. Try different wines with your favorite foods. If you'd like more advice on pairing wine and food, see the forum called "wine & food affinities" on this board.

We are also planning some new tools for this website, including a basic online wine class. So check back here often (www.wines.com).

I think the best thing to do is find out what tastes good to you first. Then do some research on wines that my be a bit more expensive or cheaper than the one you are tasting. I usually set myself a limit (18 - 30 dollars) and make my decision based on " was this wine worth the cost" better still did I enjoy the wine. Some wines are more costly than others but that does not mean it is a good wine. There are several resources on the web as well as good magazines that can help you with your decision making. Remember, what tastes good to you makes the biggest difference.
