Recently, we have tried Abolla pinot noir, George DeBeouf(sp)Merlot, Fezter Merlot, Mondavi Merlot, and a german on Schmitt Sohne Spatlese. The only one that is getting close to the sweetness we think we're looking for is the Schmitt Sohne Spatlese. Help! We don't like the "burn" of the merlot and the Debeouf(sp) Beauj are too dry/or acid. Any suggestions? Should we be looking at Pinot Noir light red wines?

Thanks

Oaklane, welcome to the Board. Pinot noir? Merlot? Sweet? Fergit it! You might find the occasional (read rare) late harvest merlot that suits you, but you're closer w/ the spatlese. You are looking for dessert wines. Those are the sweets.

Board members have addressed similar questions several times recently. So, you will find enough answers to keep you busy buyin' & drinkin' for quite awhile by readin' these threads:

And, for a bit of education re: sweet v. fruity, read this thread (Botafogo's response in particular):

Feel free to ask about specific wines after you read these threads.

Enjoy! cp

Or you could save yourself a lot of reading, and go out and buy a bottle of Manischewitz. Enjoyed some at an ecumenical sedar tonight.

Thank You for your help you're right the Splatese is exactly what I'm looking for but I'm also enjoying chardonnay - Fexter, Luna Di Luna.

Oaklane, you seem to be drawn to the sweet whites....try a bottle of Hogue Late Harvest Riesling from Washington State. You should be able to find it for less than $10.

Did somebody say Manischewitz? Man does that bring back some memories of nights I don't remember. Have to admit I've drank more Manischewitz in my life than Montelena
