Well, the boys and I are headed to Monterey for a 3 day tour, (sounds like Gillagin's Island.) Unfortunately, wine touring with 2 little ones is frowned upon. I'm thinking of stopping by "A Taste of Monterrey" and picking up a case! Any suggestions IK?

Methinks IK is still on the road, CG.

CG I haven't been to Monterrey for 4 years but used to go there ever other month on the way to or from Napa/Sonoma for pickups.Always loved lunch at the Sea Harvest. Used to take a bottle and pay their modest corkage. On Foam st. Not pretty but fresh as the blazes. On the Monterrey-Salinas hiway is a gem called Tarpy's Roadhouse. A sensational wine list. The Firehouse in downtown Monterrey has a great list also and good food. The Taste of Monterrey wine center shouldn't be missed. Used to let you taste a bunch a wines for 5 bucks and the view is spectacular. Have a ball CG. and if you get out on Carmel Valley Rd. the other place I loved was White Oak Grille. Again I'm not sure these are still viable but if there still around they have some real stuffing going for them. Have Fun!!!!WW

We've been a few times. You didn't ask me.

Waaaay off the wine topic, but I hear they've got a great white shark at the aquarium there right now -- it's pretty rare and special, as great whites have never been able to live for long in captivity.

That's why the boys - all 3 of them, want to go! They love sharks!!!

And yes KC, I did tell you we were going! Must be that selective hearing of yours! Not to worry. We're only going for 2 nights- and can't do much tasting with the kids under foot. =)

I love the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I have a membership (free admission if you pay the rather steep annual membership fee) and used to sometimes slip in on my lunch hour to watch the sea otters (I was working at Presidio of Monterey at the time). Don't miss the moon jelly exhibit either.
I haven't been to Taste of Monterey recently enough to give recommendations. I see that Baywood may be one of the wineries represented. I liked their Symphony Late Harvest but that may not be included in the tastings and you seem to go more for the red wines anyway.
