We are going on a mini-vacation to the Shenandoah Valley area in western Virginia.

The area has several vineyards, but I am hard pressed to find them. Do any of you have any ideas or information?

Thanks!

Thanks for the information, Bucko!

That should keep us busy for a while!

I think we are going to try for one vineyard in the Shanandoah Valley and then, later on, one vineyard in the "foothills".

We are going to try to visit the Shenandoah Vineyards, which are supposedly the oldest in the valley. They produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Chambourcin. Their website is www.shentel.net/shenvine

Then we will try for a visit at Prince Michel & Rapidan River Vineyards which is north of Charlottesville and just outside of Culpepper. They produce Chardonnay, CS, Merlot, a Merlot-CS Reserve, vintage Brut, dry and semi-dry Rieslings, Gewurt, Rose, and some sweet and semi-sweet reds. Their website is: www.princemichel.com

Hey Dutton, the NY Times, Wednesday, Sept 13 edition, had a nice article about Virginia wines.

I am ashamed to say that that newspaper seems bent on avoiding nice articles about its own state's wineries--except for Long Island, of course.
