- hotwine - 05-09-2007 Roaming the Texas Hill Country today, and stopped by this place outside Johnson City, about 60 miles north of San Antonio. Very nicely laid out, well-groomed property, hospitable owner. Walked out with some '04 Syrah-Cabernet and some '03 Cinque Vino Rosso, a blend of five grape varieties. Wasn't so impressed with the Sangiovese, and haven't found a Texas cab I like yet. - Kcwhippet - 05-09-2007 I had a Messina-Hof Cab about 10 years ago that was pretty nice. That was the last Texas wine I had, though there's one bottle of an Armadillo wine someone brought into the shop a few weeks ago. We haven't opened it yet because no one seems to want to be the one to taste it first. - hotwine - 05-09-2007 Can't blame 'em. Some of this stuff is only fit for target practice. Had a bottle of the Syrah-Cab blend tonight with some spicey Mexican roll-ups..... passable but no great shakes. Bottle exhibited a smokiness I hadn't noticed in the tasting room... might have blown off if decanted. - winoweenie - 05-10-2007 I'll put my Arizona reds up agin' your Texas red...Loser drinks ALL! WW - hotwine - 05-10-2007 Talk about a lose-lose proposition... - Bucko - 05-10-2007 Ever seen the purple spray from a wine bottle hit with a .223 varmit round? Sounds like it is time to find out! - hotwine - 05-11-2007 My usual is a .41 Colt... - winoweenie - 05-11-2007 Scared of guns. Usually throw rocks. WW - Innkeeper - 05-11-2007 WW people who thow rocks get shot by border guards. |
