Ironstone Vineyards Obsession is produced from the Symphony grape (developed in CA in the 60's and a cross between Muscat of Alexandria and Grenache Gris--two grapes whose wines I normally don't purchase or consume). I bought one bottle at a wine dinner where I believe it was served as the dessert wine. However, I see it more as an apperitif or with dinner.
Grapes picked at 22 Brix and fermented in stainless steel. Label says "Delicious accompaniment to spicy dishes." I say no.
Nose was grapey and herbaceous. I thought I detected some lemony scents also but that may be due to the lemon chicken I was eating.
The wine tasted chewy in the mouth. It seemed to match well with the lemon chicken and mushrooms and wild rice but I wouldn't go seeking another bottle, even at the low wine-searcher price of $6-$7 per.

I have not been impressed with former versions either.

Only Ironstone I've tried that IMHO was above average was the 96 cab which was as so aptly described by the " Silver-Tongued-Devil " himself, the mighty Curmster, as a " KICK-ASS-CAB " WW

They have put out decent cabernet francs in the past. Have not tried last two vintages. The Curmster knew the folks there quite well, and was involved in naming the winery.

ditto on the Ironstone Cab Francs, we enjoyed several bottles of the '97 definately high Q/P ratio.
