1997 Evoluna, Reserve, Mendosa, Malbec ($9.00 Wine Expo). A drop dead outstanding value. Roberto calls this one "a cure for the common merlot." It could also be called the poorman's cabernet. Deeeeeep purple color. Spices and blackberries on the nose and tongue tip. Seems fuller than 12.5% alcohol would indicate, probably due to lack of filtration or incorrect alcohol measurement. Anyhoo the apparent full body combines with ripe fruit and earthy complexity with toasty light oak in the middle. Bitter free tannin tingles on the finish. Very nice wine that matched splendidly with a vinaigrette marinated flank steak and veggies.
