It was a drizzly, 32* evening here in Atlanta last night, so we wanted to drink something that might warm us up. The first one was the '02 BenMarco Mendoza Malbec from Dominio del Plata. Dark ruby in the decanter, where it sat for 30 minutes before 1st pour and through evening. Had a kind of berry compote nose that suggested very fruity flavors, but they seemed more muted. I detected heat on the finish, even though it had the ever-present 13.5% on the label, though Anne didn't think it finished hot. I don't know if it's in some sort of "dumb" phase, or if the fruit is falling away, but IMHO this didn't deserve the WE 91 it got. Ran about $19.

The second wine was a QPR wine that we've had from time to time in past vintages: the '03 Don Miguel Gascon Mendoza malbec from Bodegas Escorihuela. Call it a purple wine -- purple in color, grapey nose, grapey flavors held together with some tannic structure, but there was a bit of leather in the finish that made it a bit more complex than first glance. I liked it better than the other, FWIW. Again, 13.5% alc., and it ran about $10.

Got up to 21 here today.

Today it got up to 12. Windchill reached 0.
Much warmer than yesterday, though!

looks like cold-spell is almost over. 20's tomorrow, 30's by mid-week.

I wasn't online yesterday because my room happens to be the coldest in the house, and it was damned cold yesterday. Today is not much better this far, although there mercifully is no wind.

Each year at this time I wonder about the sanity of those of us who live in the Northeast and Midwest.

And remember: not April, but March is the cruelest month!

I called my fiance to brag about how nice it was with the 55 degree weather this weekend. She responds, "That's nice, it is 80 here!" Norfolk, VA.

83 Fahrenheit in Fayetteville yesterday and similar today. Then a downturn to 60's. (I prefer the 60's for spring--I don't relish rushing into summer. I hear Phoenix had a rainstorm, WW. Is it true?

86* farenheit here in Central Florida today, and it's starting to get humid. Every damn tree is pollinating. Our six month summer is just starting. Drat! I really do not look forward to July, August, and September. Everything just melts in the heat.

It's da muddy season here. Believe it or not there are some folks in my former occupation that capitalize on it around here. They offer 1/2 price packages to anyone willing to slog it out.

After 143 days without measurable precipitation Friday nite and ALL DAY Sat we had the perfect rain for our parched desert. Even, slow drizzle. Naturally the party for all my buddies had to be moved from the patio to inside but we overcame. A very important storm for us here in the valley. Another couple will be great and cut the fire danger down. WW
