Anybody tasted anything from Brazil? Just got a hold of a couple of cases from Miolo. Don't know anything about this winery except that it's the largest in Brazil. I'll taste soon enough; just curious if anyone here has tasted any?

I'm sure that Roberto has as he spends every hour he can with his sweetie in Rio. He looks in occassionally so maybe he can advise. If not you can give him a buzz at 1-800-wineexpo. WW

Thanks WW, I ran a search on EBob thinking he might have mentioned something there, but didn't find anything. I'll just wait to see if he checks in. I'll taste soon anyway.

I tried their Cab Reserva and their Cab-Merlot Reserva -- they were both mediocre, 80 points at best.

Brappy -- The Roberto that WW was referring to is an old message board regular who goes by Botafogo, but I haven't seen him around much of late. He has a Cali wine shop called Wine Expo.

Thanks Bucko. Do you happen to remember the vintages? Also, not to push my luck, but did you happen to take notes? Anyway, thanks again.

Dan, I thought that was who he was referring to so thanks for clarifying. I looked for some of his posts over on EBob because he seems to be over there all the time. I have his email address and might use it but it's not really that important. I'll taste some of these in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks again Dan,

I tried them at a tasting. My note file says, "No note." This means I would only give the wine 80 or less. Sorry I cannot be more help.

Alright, I'm finally getting around to tasting a couple of these wines from Brazil. Both are made by Miolo, both '05. One is Merlot, the other is Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cab: Nose of stewed tart red fruits. The palate doesn't quite have the stewed fruit so obvious on the nose. There is also a streak of blue fruit. It's barely noticeable but still there. Needs more time.... Not very good....

Merlot: Much better nose than the Cab. Some red fruits and some dark fruits. Touch of green and some wood. On the palate, decent fruit. The wine is showing varietal correctness. Nice. Soft. Pleasant.... We'll see what happens with time....
