We typically enjoy Sokol Blosser wines. Their Pinot is regularly a good example of Willamette, and they have managed to keep their QPR reasonable, unlike some others. They make a nice white blend called Evolution, which is usually a good summer sipper. The Meditrina is a red blend of Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Syrah, which seemed interesting enough to try. Generally speaking, it's not a blend you see much. It ran about $20 at a Whole Foods-style grocery store in the Westport neighborhood in Kansas City (we're spending the week up at our farm, mainly doing chores -- grass needs cutting, the orchard needs tending, the kitchen cabinets need finishing, etc.). Anyway, it is a NV wine labeled "American," I'm guessing because the juice comes from all over. So, it's not a "Willamette" wine.

Pale ruby in color, with a Pinot-like nose of dark cherry. The body and weight was very much like a Pinot, though the flavors tended more towards the Syrah and Zin. So, in short, picture a Zin/Syrah blend delivered in Pinot style. A nice summer sipper that offered light tannins, soft fruit, and good acidity -- an easy drinking, good change-of-pace from our usual Pinot and Beaujolais summer reds of choice. We'd buy it again.
