I've found some interesting wines and some pretty decent QPR stuff coming out of Greece recently, and this was no exception. Sometimes, the Saint George is called Aghiorgitiko.

The color was deep violet, and it was quite aromatic -- somewhat reminiscent of cab franc. Some black current and plummy flavors wrapped around some tannins that seem to hold it all together. A touch of vanilla on the finish, likely from the 12 months in new French oak. A nice wine that we both enjoyed. Improved through the evening -- not decanted beforehand. 12% alc. Paid $12 for it locally.

By the by, we also had a few enjoyable glasses of a '99 Boutari Xinomavro at a local restaurant after Christmas. Yummy also.
