Went up to Whistler last summer and found this rose in the provincial liquor store. It was a BRILLIANT red in color and tasted very simliar to the Saintsbury "Vincent Vin Gris" rose of Pinot Noir.

Anybody else had this? Know anything about the grape? It's German and that's about all I know.

And Whistler is who, where?

Jane, you ignorant sl*t.

Whistler is a B.C. ski resort. Very popular in this neck of the woods.

Grey Monk is actually a Canadian winery located in the Okanagan region. It has a very loyal following with the locals and those who don't mind a bit of travelling to get to their wines. I've actually never tried it (one of those that I missed). There is US representation apparently for Texas and somewhere in the east.

The winery has a great breadth of products but the Rose tends to not be people's favorite part of the lineup. Regardless, still a decent bottle to try. If possible, go back and try their other wines too!

Actually Banff and Whistler are very popular spots from this side of the country too....though East Coasters think that if you can ski in the East (where it is mostly ice), you can ski anywhere.......

No East Coast equivalent to Blackcomb Whistler, but I really like Mont Tremblant regardless. Even nicer than Killington IMHO.

I can heartily recommend the other Grey Monk stuff, having tasted everything that comes into WA state. The Rotberger doesn't, however, although my distrib promised that he'd bring it in when we get the shop open. Their reds are not quite up to snuff - gonna take a few years more for the vines, I think - but their whites are lovely.

From Anthony Hawkins: Has synonym name Geisenheim 3-37. Result of a Trollinger x Riesling variety cross. Used to produce fruity, early maturing light red or rosé wines in cool-climate areas. Has no relationship with the Rotburger variety bearing nearly similar name.
