Kung Fu Girl Riesling is put out by Charles Smith of K Vintners as another more value-oriented wine project (similar to his popular "House Wine" lineup under the Magnificent Wine Company moniker). This Riesling carries the Columbia Valley tag, which is only interesting as the grapes are from a single vineyard -- Evergreen Vineyard, overlooking Columbia Gorge near George, WA. It's a cooler site suited for whites. What's particularly neat is that we saw these very grapes last summer when traveling back from Kathy's place to Portland. Anyway, dark straw in color, with a floral and fruity nose and flavors of honeyed apricots, lime, and pear. Nice acidity balances the wine, which is just a touch off-dry, and it never comes across as sweet or cloying. Everything is delivered in a light package, with a trace of effervescence. Not fizzy or frizzante, just a hint of bubbles. 12.5% alc. Will make for a really good match for a wide range of foods, particularly Asian. We liked it, and it went down really easily on a summer day in Hotlanta. It ran $14 locally.
