2002 Salmon Run, New York, Meritage (13.95 Winery). This is an "Introductory Special" according to the winery. The percentage mixture of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc could not be found, but like most Finger Lakes Meritages this one also seems to be Cab Franc heavy. This is based on more red than black fruit on the nose and upfront. Not complaining at all. This is a great food wine, and a better one than normally found under $15. Alcohol 12%!

As stated it gives red raspberries and currents on the nose and tongue tip. Lots of acid, moderate complxity, and smooth tannin cross the palate. Lovely finish. Matched famously with sauteed ham slices (thick) in our complex cream sauce and spinach. Glad we have a couple more in the cellar, and would get more later.

Drank our last one with Salibury Steak in a rich muchroom sauce last night. Great match. All is well.
