I`m new at wine so turkey & ham traditional dinner for 25 to 30 dollars a bottle what can I pick up a the local market I like ports, I`m feeding 10 family members for dinner. Would like a desert wine also?

Hi JD and welcome to the board. Personally I prefer a good medium bodied Zinfandel wioth Turkey and port is a dessert wine of note. WW

A Beaujolais Cru (such as Julienas or Fleurie or Moulin a Vent) or a Pinot Noir are other possibilities with turkey and ham. I agree about saving the Port for the dessert wine--possibly without food if you are having pumpkin or mince pie. Traditionally Port is often served with Stilton cheese and walnuts. Tawny Port goes well with caramelized desserts such as creme brulee or almond tart or might go well with pecan pie.
