- summa - 08-16-2001 I hate any empty category ) must be some good values from this region. - hotwine - 08-16-2001 Most Sancerres retail for $17-$18. I've not tried any other Loire wines lately. - wondersofwine - 08-16-2001 Vouvray can be a non-intimidating wine for someone who doesn't drink a lot of wine. I don't have a particular one to recommend but enjoy them in warm weather. - Innkeeper - 08-16-2001 You can find Sancerres under $15, and have posted some on this thread. A Vouvray is not your everyday chenin blanc, and is a must for your list. You will also find recommendations if you go back on this thread. - Scoop - 08-17-2001 Thierry Nerrison makes a dynamite Samur-Champigny (100% Cab Franc), very elegant, and full of lip-smacking berry fruit and Red Zinger tea notes. Other good producers from this appellation include Hureau and Filliatreu (sic?). All produce bottlings just under the $15 price point (retail). Cheers, Scoop - summa - 08-24-2001 Thank you, our restaurant is going country french, and the chef was asking about a good chenin blanc. Being mostly self educated the majority of my past experience is with California (though I've always a a feeling for the integrity of French wines), and now I find myself self yearning for French wines more and more. - joeyz6 - 08-28-2001 I was fortunate enough to have lived in the Loire for a month last September. I toured the vineyards of Vouvray and had the opportunity to buy fantastic Chenin Blanc and sparkling Vouvrays for very cheap straight from the chateau -- but now that I'm back in the States, I'm still more than willing to pay the $10-20 for them. My personal favorites are demi-sec. - summa - 08-28-2001 I'll get at least a Vouvray on the list. |
