IK referred on another forum to a recalcitrant synthetic stopper. I recently encountered one on a bottle of Willamette Vin Gris that retained the screw of my cork screw (snapped right off) and then a second cork screw began to crack as I pulled. The stopper would not budge; the cork screws gave up the ghost.
How many have had similar experiences? Maybe wine producers need to know about it.

No problems here either...the oversized Oxo self pulling corkscrew I have makes small work of tough polymer corks.

None here, either. Some are certainly tougher than others, but I've not encountered any that were THAT ornery!

The Pacific Rim Riesling had to toughest one I've encountered. The Screwpull stopped dead in its tracks with a couple of inches to go. Had to horse the "cork" the rest of the way out.

Perhaps it is not the tool, but the person using it?
Is it my imagination, or is it just the bored members that regularly drink the SW's that are having this problem?

Winecollector: the Vin Gris is not an sw; it is in fact produced from Pinot Noir. But I have started anew on my old regimen of morning push-ups, to strengthen my upper arms for the task before me as more and more synthetics make their appearance.
Incidentally, have sold a few bottles of that Vin Gris: not one consumer complaint about the stopper. I'd better beef up that push-up regimen...
