When I was in the USN I was in The Beach Jumper
Unit 2 from 1965 to 1969. I just joined the Beach Jumpers assc.; I think I'm their newest member. They are having a reunion in Virginia Beach this July and I have not been in that area since 1969. Does anyone know of good wine shops or restaurants in that area?
Thanks
Go navy

Any help would be appreciated. Last time I was there it was 3.2 beer and State controlled liquore stores.

It's a good distance from Charlottesville, but if you are doing any sightseeing at Monticello, etc. I can recommend Tastings Restaurant/Wine Bar/Wine Shop in downtown Charlottesville.

Thanks.

Well the 3.2 beer is gone (I hope) but the Commonwealth controlled stores are still around. Unless you know someone (or have yourself) a military ID card. Then you can go on any number of Navy or Army bases and buy nicely discounted beverages Monday through Monday. Of note is the fact that you can also buy wine and beer in the grocery stores and do not have to go to the ABC store.

I have lived here since 1987 and am retired military.

There are a couple of nice wine stores in the area along with lots of restaurants from casual to upscale. Seafood is the highpoint and then there is some Italian, some Pacific Rim and lots of little "mom & pop" places that may or may not please the palate.

I can direct you to one or two of the places that have been around for a couple of generations; one doesn't advertise and they are a top notch seafood restaurant.

I'm not sure if my email address is immediately available anymore to users of this board (because I've had some problems with SPAM). However if you REALLY would like to get in touch with me ask me for my REAL email address by contacting me at mrduttonxatxhotmail.com (delete xatx and insert @).

You mean you were a SEAL? What else would one call a "beach jumper".

Thanks mrdutton, i'll have my wife help me to e-mail you if I go; I'm computer challenged.
I was not a seal but we were stationed in Lttle Creek. We did some joint operations together.
Go to beachjumpers.com for a history of my unit.
May look you up in July if I can make the reunion.
