Earlier we discussed female vocalists and I declared my admiration for Etta James. Found out on the Internet that she is appearing at B.B. King's in NYC Memorial Day weekend. Since I didn't get to see "Lion King" in March due to the Broadway musicians' strike, I'm giving New York another chance over Memorial Day weekend and also have a ticket to see Etta James on May 24th. (May get to Is-Wine again also).
Thought some of you New York fans might be interested in seeing Etta James.

I saw Etta James for the first (and unfortunately the last) time back about 1963 (yeah, I'm old - the first album I bought with my own money was Rock Around the Clock). I still remember her doing Something's Got a Hold on Me, At Last and Good Rockin' Daddy. She did a bunch more, but that's what I remember. I saw Bo Diddly about the same time, but I don't remember if they were in the same concert. Also saw Jackie Wilson around that time shortly after he finished recovering from a few bullet holes and the IRS. Those were the days. Sure do like Diana Krall now, though.

Ah, I'd love to see her. I'll be in Ohio, however, at my sister's graduation from Oberlin College, feelin' proud.

Congrats to your sis! Chris Morris, whose family goes to my church, graduated from Oberlin about two (?) years ago. He's a very promising young African American who may be a doctor or senator some day. Ask your sister if she knew him at all.

Blues Hall of Fame (2001) inductee Etta James has a voice that stirs with passion and pain. In concert, Etta James is a sassy, no-holds-barred performer. She's been a force in music since the 1950's. Her recording career kicked into high gear in the 1960's with hits such as "All I Could Do Was Cry," "At Last," "Trust in Me," and "Tell Mama." Her last few albums have been a varied lot -- 1990's "Sticking to My Guns" was contemporary in the extreme; 1992's "The Right Time" was slickly soulful, and her most recent outings have explored jazz directions. In 1998, she also issued a holiday album, "Etta James Christmas." Her most recent release, "Let's Roll," will come out on May 6,2003.

Memorial Day weekend heh! I'll see if I can't take some time off for that. And maybe I'll see you again WOW. You keep bringing great Burgundy and I promise to keep the door wide open...

Foodie,
I may bring another Burgundy or I may bring something else. Do you like Australian cabernet sauvignon or red blends or are you interested in trying one? Or I could bring a 2001 German Riesling Spatlese from the Rheingau if you would prefer that.

WOW, the only wine that does not appeal to my taste much is muscat--after that, I drink anything.
