Though we ranted about WS's Rhone article yesterday, have to rave about their coffee article in the Jan 31 edition. A very good article overall, but happily for us they favorably mentioned "our" coffee company. When we first moved here to open our inn, we tasted all the coffees available and there were several excellent ones. The one we settled on and stayed with stood above all the others. That is Green Mountain Coffee from Waterbury, VT; the same town that brought you Ben & Jerry's. They can be found at: http://www.greenmountaincoffee.com/ .
The WS article was about coffee blends, and they compared them with wine blends, and we couldn't agree more. We developed and served for the twelve years we were in business, and still in retirement what we called the Thurston House Blend. It consists of one part GM's "Our Blend" for smoothness, one part Columbian Supremo Popayan for strength, and one part Guatemalan Finca Dos Maria for aroma and subtilty. Guests loved it, even the tough ones.
The ready made blends are great too. WS mentioned their Nantucket Blend which is excellent as is their Vermont Country Blend which is a combination of light and dark roasted beans. If, you like flavored coffees, and lots of people don't, they have several great ones. We are partial to their Belgian Chocolate Nut which comes as most of the others do in both regular and decaf.
