Happy happy to all. Boo to the fact that Pops Go the Fourth doesn't come on until 10 PM. Bring back the A&E broadcast. Down with CBS!

We are going to grill fillet steaks and top them with aioli. Have already decanted the '98 TJ Private Stash that will be consumed with them.

Shame on you Hotwine--eating buggers! I hope that was burgers. I had hamburger Sunday and Monday but dressed it up with chopped onions, tomatoes, Cheshire cheese and Marsala/Porcini/Truffles sauce.
Will post on wines later. Had Elyse Zinfandel with the burgers.

Those were indeed burgers, Wonders. I call 'em buggers just to gross out the wife (works pretty well, too).

They were ground sirloin grilled over oak.

That grilling over the right wood does wonders for the burgers. Mine were broiled indoors.

Very true. I build an oak fire for any and all outdoor cooking, and it really makes a difference. It takes time (about an hour just to prepare the fire) and makes a mess of ashes that must be disposed of, but.... the pit's location is halfway to the winecellar. I can duck in there for "cook's lube" in a heartbeat. Or just to cool off on a scalding summer afternoon.
