......the troops just secured a 100-acre chemical weapons facility in Iraq.

As Hotwine has been preaching, we have to trust that the government is doing the right thing and has more details than can be released to the public.

Looks like that was just hammered home.

You betchum Red Rider!

- Bucko - 03-23-2003

And the UN inspectors just claimed they had no idea it was there. How can you miss a friggin' 100-acre site if you are really looking hard? I smell a rat.......

- hotwine - 03-23-2003

Yup. I think this one will be seen as the tip of a very large iceberg.

- Georgie - 03-23-2003

Finally some good news on this grim day.

- hotwine - 03-23-2003

Yeah, we've had a flood of bad news all day, one terrible report after another. Too many examples of poor leadership and/or poor judgement getting people killed. Sure hope the initial reports on this weapons factory prove true.

- winer - 03-24-2003

I have not yet seen or heard the reports myself, so I may be talking through my hat here. But it seems to me that, with the sophisticated surveillance capabilities that the Americans have, they should have been able to detect a facility that size and point the weapons inspectors to it. But that does not appear to have happened. Was this facility concealed so it could not be detected from the air or from space?

- Bucko - 03-24-2003

Very good question.... now there are reports coming in about the possibility it is not a chemicals weapons site afterall. There is a lot of confusion on the battlefield, so we need to let the dust settle on this one.

It's gotta be one of two things.....Chemical Weapons plant OR Baby Formula plant.

The 'silent' war is also going on as well, and may affect how many WOMD sites we'll find.
From what I've read this weekend the CIA has contacted a lot of Iraqi intelligence agents who're assigned to embassy duty worldwide, offered them a chance to 'turncoat' or they'll seek to have the host country expel these agents as spys, knowing full well that now may not be the safest time for these fellows to leave Europe and return to Iraq.

You'll note that some countries have, in fact, kicked out a number of Iraqi embassy staff in the past 5 days, I would expect that this is related. Other countries have refused to do so (notably France & Russia).

There are other countries where no request needed to be made, no news may be good news. Anyone want to bet that the CIA knows more about who/what/where the WOMD are located NOW than we did a month ago with Blix in the Stix?
